Session Thirteen: Inventory Day

Page history last edited by Shieldhaven 12 years, 2 months ago

The day after their trip to the Vault of the Lantern Bearers (9 June), Dorothy returns from her work, while Stephen is called away. Having recovered three boxes from the Vault, they decide to inspect them more closely and open them. (It would be great if Wendy would type up the details of the age and make of the three coffers and insert them here! I don't have notes on them.) Inside the first coffer, they find a scarab tied to Mind magic, which has something to do with the pharaohs of Egypt. In the second coffer, they find a carnelian carved in the image of St. Peter and Simon Magus; with some study, they determine that it has the ability, thrice ever, to dispel Mind or Space magic with great force. The third coffer holds a candle that protects the user(s) from having the Fey meddle with their Fates while they sleep, so long as the candle burns.

Then they opened the tome that the Gravediggers gave them. Its first page is a protective glyph. Saint studies it for awhile and completes the sigil to solve the puzzle, allowing them to turn the page. The second page is labeled simply The Test of Sacrifice, and with their knowledge of occult lore, Saint and Surya determine that "Heart's Blood" is what's required, though even that is an ambiguous determination.

Madog is a puzzle, too - specifically, what to do with him? They discuss his options with him, and eventually determine that Saint will give him a job somewhere in his company so that they can keep him safe and near at hand. There's no telling who might want to capture or kill someone from a parallel reality that is in the thrall of the Abyss.

Keeping up with their obligations, they made a phone call to arrange a meeting with Ferrum. At the Emerald Scroll, they paid him the the twelve Tass he is due for June as part of their bargain, and he agreed to work on a new rote for Telekinetic Strike with Surya, since the normal Telekinetic Strike rote is far from ideal for him. This will take some time and effort, however. From talking to Rabid Annie, they also found out that the Shadow Chorus is enraged that "their" vault was robbed, though Annie says she knows nothing about who might have been responsible, and prefers to retain her plausible deniability.

The next day, the group discusses the Lantern Bearers and the asylum where Surya was held. They make plans to investigate that asylum (since it was very near the Vault of the Lantern Bearers) sometime soon. All things taken together, they conclude that the Shadow Chorus are the heirs to the Lantern Bearers, or possibly the same people operating under a different cabal name, since the identities of the Shadow Chorus are so carefully concealed.
