Origins of the Dragonborn
Dragonborn come from the far south, across the water. They deny the existence of any kingdom or empire there, generally avoiding the question with stony silence. They travel in small groups throughout the Principalities, the Empire of Cranes, and Akathia. Dragonborn soldiers from that distant southern country control a single domain within Akathia.
Dragonborn in Akathia
In 1047, dragonborn crusaders invaded Akathia, conquering most of the inhabitable land within two hundred miles of the coast. Over the next fifty years, the Caliphates of the region drove the dragonborn back, so that they now control only the realm of Marash el-Dahaka. The dragonborn there have settled into an uneasy truce with the neighboring states.
Dragonborn in Athral Isle
In 1203, King Sigmar invited the dragonborn to settle in the outlying and less desirable areas of Athral Isle, following eight years of service in his army. Over the last five years, they have served in army in great numbers, but the common people are deeply suspicious of them.
Dragonborn in the Principalities of Verdien
Organized into companies of 60-100 soldiers and 40-80 support staff, dragonborn mercenaries are a common sight in the war-torn Principalities. The most famous of these companies is Rageheart's Command, which marches under the banner of a red dragon. Most of these companies have been active for three or more generations, and they frequently take on unattached dragonborn arriving from the south.
